This painting started as a much-older commission, which I wanted to revisit after having my own experiences with paganism here in the Southwest. In particular, this painting commemorates our Beltane experience this past year, including all the particular ways the environment came together on those few days this spring.

Our current selves are amalgamations of circumstances and choices. These little moments in time combine into our lived experiences, each one with their own texture and feeling. Joy and trauma, grief and restoration. How will we take each segment and use it to build into the future?

A wine baptism administered by family and society, commemorating one’s sudden push to leadership. One cannot serve many people without first believing in their own abilities.
Transference I (Pink Phase)
It wasn’t until very recently, thanks to the little stability at home we were able to build, that we had the means to do this art together. We’ve been official for just over two years, spanning three residencies. For the entirety of that time, we wanted to do something collaborative, something that captures how we feel with each other, in those moments where our spirits combine, igniting into something beyond our separate physical bodies.
